PLEATED LILLE TANK: An easy hack to duplicate a high end (and expensive) pleated tank top

By Wendy Bennett

INSPIRATION AND DUPLICATION

PATTERN HACK

• Create a yoke by measuring 4” down from neckline and add a seam allowance (I used 3/8”)
• Add 1.5” to center back and add a seam allowance to top of back

CURVED HEM OPTION

•Add 5/8” flange to side seam
•This allows the hem to lie flat when
pressed

CUT

•Cut both yoke and back on the fold
•Cut tank front on the fold
•Cut 1” wide binding strips the width of
fabric (2 or 3)

MARK PLEAT

•With right sides together fold the back in half and mark a line 1.5” from the center back and ~5” long
•Baste along the line

PRESS AND MARK PLEAT

Press pleat and mark:
•3/8” (for seam allowance)
•2” for bar tack placement
•4” for bar tack placement

ADD INTERFACING

•Use a small piece of knit interfacing to stabilize the bar tacks
•Press using a damp cloth

BAR TACK

•Add bar tack on top of interfaced pleat
•Choose whichever size you prefer

CONSTRUCTION

•Sew yoke to back (topstitching optional)
•Sew shoulder seams
•Sew side seams
•If using curved hem option serge along side seam and flange

 HEM

•Fold up hem and sew in place
•With the flange you achieve a flat seam
