The Tangled Swim Top is a fun swim top with several fun color blocking options. Go ahead and let your imagination run wild with this top. There are so many fun options.

In addition to all the color blocking options, there is a FBA (full bust adjustment) front option, three back coverages and two band width options.

This creative swim top is great for using small scraps and even better for active swimming, lounging by the pool or playing on the beach.

You will need up to 5/8 yard of swim (color blocking can be much less of each color depending on options chosen) and 1/2 yard of swim lining.

Loving this bikini top love how it can be made in so many style options with full bust pattern pieces too and a really quick sew I have made 3 for my holiday to match my green style bikini bottoms they look and feel great on the beach

Made for wearing under dive suit

Use case:
I needed a comfortable under-layer for my diving suit and checked several pattern companies (Edgewater, 5outof4, Megan Nielsen, Bootstrap Fashion). This one offered the most coverage and value.

Positive feedback:
This was my first time making part of a swimsuit, and I finished the top in one day—even though I sew at a snail’s pace! The sew-along video is fantastic, though not necessary because the instructions and images are super clear.

I was worried about the fit since some tester photos showed loose areas, but if you choose the right fabric, size correctly, and use elastic, it fits great.

Constructive feedback:
It would be helpful if they addressed seam direction in the instructions, especially when adding elastic. Stacked seam allowances can get bulky. I've seen other pattern companies offer guidance on this.

Notes for other sewers:
If you struggle with seams on knits, use Elmer’s washable glue stick to hold seams in place, then baste by hand, wash and sew. Alternatively you can sew directly on the fabric with dry glue, but it is less recommended. For activewear, use strong elastic, rubber or bleach/heat-resistant types are best. The pattern doesn’t emphasize this enough, but if you will use this for a sport or want it to last, elastics are a must. I recommend the Edgewater 3 part video on elastics for more insight, it changed my mind.

Overall:
This is a fantastic pattern! I used a fabric I didn’t love, but it turned out great for my first swimsuit project.

So easy and good fit

I have done test sewing for this pattern.

This is my fist time sewing in swim fabric. I have bought swim fabric many years ago, but always waited to sew since I thought it would need so much research on how to. When test sewing I just jumped in it, and it was really easy! I sewed with regular sewing machine first (5mm sting length) before sewing on serger, and it turns out perfect. The fit is excellent, I used the measures to decide on size.

I have made one more after testing versions, and I did a small adjustment om the bottom back piece - I took away a litle on top before the waistband for even better fit.

Awesome colour blocking swim options

This is one of my favourite bikinis: I used this awesome bringer snow leopard print which I found in my scrap bag for tiny scraps and turned it into this great tangled top by combining it with matching colours. I also inserted cups and power mesh and you can use this top pattern as sports bra as well as it’s super supportive. I matched mine with the cute triangle bikini bottoms for less coverage more cheeky look than the tangled bottoms. This pattern also has a colour block option. So you can mix and match your perfect bikini styles together and will never by RTW swimwear again (well I won’t);)

This is such a versatile and fabulous pattern

This is a great top for the leftover pieces of swim you’ve been holding onto but it’s also great as a sports bra! I made the basic version in swim and made it even simpler as a reversible camping bra out of merino wool jersey!
