Perfect for Running

I bought this pattern on the recommendation of a friend who is also a runner. I LOVE the design. I am exploring the different combinations of briefs and shorts, and I have even made the under shorts as a bike short option. I would 10/10 recommend this for all sewists.

Such a amazing short pattern

I've made so many of the Moxie's in an modified 5 inch length. I have also made an extra small for a teen.

Cute

I fell in love with the style of these shorts and immediately purchased them. The binding was a pain but they are cute when they are done.

Instructions need updating

The shorts are cute but the instructions need to be updated. The instructions say that the lengths for the elastics on the optional briefs are located on the pattern piece but that's no longer true. Also, the elastic was the same length as the circumference of the leg opening, which doesn't seem right.

I also wish the diagrams showed all of the pertinent information. Sometimes, you have to read a paragraph of directions to find the next step and the diagrams don't necessarily show these steps.

Surprisingly body-friendly!

I had held off on buying this pattern because I didn’t think my body type would be well served by the design. Then I had some fabric which cried out to be swim shorts with a built-in brief, and the Moxi fit the bill. I took the plunge and was wildly pleased! The instructions make it a lot easier to construct this garment than you’d imagine! And after two pairs (a muslin and a real pair, both totally wearable) I have to say, all bodies are short-short bodies!!

True love

This was the first pattern I ever saw from Greenstyle and I'll forever remember it as the thing that opened up a whole new world of sewing to me. It took me a long time to get around to actually making it myself, and after the first one there was no stopping :D It is much easier than it might look, just follow the steps and it will be fine. It doesn't only work in stretch woven, I've made several pairs in stable french terry for casual summer wear, too.

Why did I wait?

I’ve been wanting to sew some moxis for ages, and finally got to it when the pattern was updated. Why did I wait? They’re great! Gonna be the perfect addition to my running wardrobe for summer.

I was skeptical. When I was trying them on without the waistband they seemed too tight and too short. Adding the waistband was like magic. Suddenly they fit perfectly and, with one run under my belt, they are already my favorite shorts ever.
I have hips, thighs, and a butt. Lots of chub rub. Every other pair of running shorts I’ve ever owned has ridden up and I’m constantly pulling them down. Not my moxies. They stayed put. I didn’t even have to shake them down mid-stride.
I made a few modifications, but nothing major. I scooped the front and back rise to more of an L, added about 1/4” the front and back inseams to accommodate my thighs, and drafted a flat front/elastic back waist. I like the yoga waist, but I didn’t have any stretch fabric that matched my woven, so I improvised. It worked out great and I will probably always make moxies this way. I also made the next size larger than my measurements called for, figuring too big is better than too tight. I’m really glad I did. The fit is perfect.
The binding was a little work, but now that I’ve done it once, I’ll be able to hone the technique. I didn’t have any trouble following the tutorial or sewing the back seam.
I’m so happy with my new shorts. This will for sure be a go-to pattern whenever I need new running gear.

Shorts make it easy enough for a beginner but the waistband is really complicated for nothing. I made different models of pants with similar waistband with much simpler explanations..

I've owned this pattern for at least 2 years and keep coming back for more! I've made so many and have tried various materials (my knit ones are my favorite :) ). The fit is great!

I had this pattern for over 6 months before I finally made them. I knew I liked them as soon as I saw them but I let the binding intimidate me for way too long. Plus I had never worked with stretch woven. I am so glad I finally forced myself to make these. My tween daughter and I both love them and already have 3 pairs each, plus I made my sister a pair and she loves them too! Don't be like me and let this pattern intimidate you. Like all of the other GS patterns I have sewn, the instructions are great!

They didn't work perfectly but that was due to fabric choice and with a stretch woven they'd be exactly what I want; just didn't have anything suitable in the stash I could access. I replaced the bias binding with FOE which worked really well and was much easier. I can see myself making more of these, in fact I have some stretch woven cotton sateen if I can find it that would be gorgeous!

Very quick and easy to sew. I wasnt sure if i would get a good fit, so I sewed up a muslin out of a pair of my husbands old dress slacks that had no stretch, cut them on the bias, and they are probably my favorite running shorts. I have since made them from stretch woven Fabric Fairy, which also sewed up beautifully. I was very pleased with this pattern!!

I was a little intimidated by this pattern at first, but it was brilliantly simple to sew up. I don't like RTW running shorts because the built-in briefs are always too short for me. With this pattern, I can make running shorts without briefs, but I can also use this pattern to make swim shorts with briefs that fit me! The wide yoga-like waistband is so comfortable and they stay put with working out. love this pattern!

and very easy to sew! I love the fit and have made three already. They are comfortable and roomy, without gaping at the legs.

The way these shorts come together is genius! I have made more than 10 pairs between my daughter and myself. They are a summer staple in my wardrobe. My favorite pairs are made from a stretch twill for the body and binding with a cotton lycra for my waistbands. These have held up through lots of workouts and everyday wear. Great pattern!! And, yes, I will be making more of these!

Do you ever feel like you've seen all the patterns out there? I can feel like that sometimes. And I suppose that is one of the reasons I got these shorts - they were pretty cool! My girls should look great in them and they are up there in the 'style' category. Well...I haven't made even one pair for my girls yet! I'm having WAY too much fun making fun versions for myself! You guys ROCK! :)
