Over the Moon for Overlay

I impulse bought the Black Burnout panel in bamboo jersey from Blended Thread Fabrics, not knowing what I would do with it. When a dear friend said she planned to visit over the eclipse, I knew that I had to make her something special for the occasion. The Overlay was the perfect choice: excellent spring layering piece, well suited for a drapery fabric, easy sew up. I had some minor quibbles over typos and less-than-clear instructions, but I still will recommend this pattern for all skill levels.

Easy to make but not my style

Great instructions included with this pattern. As every woman is differently shaped, and after making my first top, I found I would have to make too many adjustments to the pattern to make this top comfortable for me or my adult daughter. Neither of us is large or top heavy (36 B and 38B)I chose the banded option and the bands keep rolling to the inside and don't cover the seam, making it rub against the serging threads. Also, the cut of the side panel is too high and digs into the armpit. For my body, I'd have to make some adjustments there as well. I made two of these tops a whole size larger than what the pattern sizes state and just didn't find a good fit.

Made just the overlay and it fits great, it was also quick to sew, love the result 🤩

Two patterns in one, and very versatile

So, first of all I really appreciate that this is basically a two-pattern package, you get two entirely different garments for the price of one. Of course they can be made as a matching outfit and worn together, but each of them also makes sense on its own and can be used in a variety of ways. The crop top is great as a workout top, as everyday underwear, sleep wear or as a summer top. The overlay is super useful as a layering piece, the open back is great to show off strappy sports bras. It works best in really drapey fabrics like rayon/bamboo.

I love it!

I did not expect to love a crop top this much. This pattern was fun and fast, and helped me use up some athletic fabric I had left over after making leggings. I made the u-back with binding. It's very comfortable and I will be making more. Thank you!

I love this pattern for the versatility! Not only is it 2 patterns in one, but it can be used for athleisure wear and for sportswear. Choose a nice dressy fabric and you have a new date night top, or grab some athletic fabric and head off to the gym.

These pieces are made for each other! If I could, I would wear a sports bra or crop top as a 'shirt' all the time. The less clothes the better! The Overlay is the ticket to please my comfort and keep me appropriate for public too haha. As for the Crop, it's the best I've ever worn. I've hacked it a few times and made several as drafted, all love! It's got just the right amount of length, and the crossover band gives makes it unique. Go down one size and use a firm supplex and it makes for a great light impact bra. Seriously can't say enough about this pattern!

The Crop Top is the answer to my search for a lounge-style bra top to kick around in. I've actually hacked it by cutting a piece of Power Net the same as the band, and spray-gluing it to the band fabric, then sewing it as one. It creates a pretty bulky seam this way, but it makes the band work perfectly as support for a larger bust. Between that and lining the bodice pieces with bamboo lycra, it is the perfect top. I plan to make many more!!

This is one pattern one needs to make many of, too many options and so styling. The expanded sizing looks great on so many body shapes. I have more ready to be sewn!

This pattern has Greenstyle Creation's new expanded size range and I love it! The crop top made my not-little waist actually look small, which of course I love! And the overlay is so versatile! I made a tie version and love that I can tie it in back, in front, leave it open as a cardigan with a waterfall hem, or even double cross in front and tie a small knot in back for a ballet wrap style. Sew many options from a single top! I'll be sewing a double front (no crossover) version next, as it will be the perfect shirt for the gym.

What a fantastic pattern. So many options. I have two long sleeve versions cut and ready to go for fall. The sleeveless version was awesome at the gym this week. And the crop top....such a fun piece to wear with the overlay or all by itself.

I just can't stop making Elevate Overlays! I love this pattern, and I think I need one of every different option... long sleeve for winter, sleeveless for summer, banded, tie back, etc., I just need them all!

I was SO excited for the release of this crop... the crop definitely does not disappoint. BUT, the Overlay is amazing! Maybe has even stolen the show? I love how many options there are to personalize it and how it can easily be dressed up or down. I've got many more of both the crop and overlay planned! Elevate is definitely a huge win. :)

Love this new pattern! The crop top is great for tennis and with the overlay, I can put it on and go into the clubhouse for lunch and not catch a chill. The added coverage for full bust included in the pattern makes an FBA unnecessary for the crop! Thanks for another great knit pattern GreenStyle.
