These athleisure shorts have a retro vibe you can't help but love.  These shorts have the option for 2.5", 3.5" or 4.5" inseams, elastic waist or contoured waistband, and pockets or no pockets.

You need 5/8 to 1 yard of athletic knit (depending on your size) and up to 48" of 1" elastic (if using the elastic waist option).  Stretch woven fabric is also acceptable but you might need to size up one size depending on your measurements for your selected size.

Easy sew, fancy look

If you are scared of the Moxi Shorts, this is a good place to start :D The shape of these is a bit more "normal", they work with a wide variety of knit fabrics, the construction is very logical, and it is relatively easy to adjust the length and width for a perfect fit. The binding is a lot easier than it may seem. I love making these in french terry as casual summer shorts, and also in athletic knit as running shorts.

Awesome Pattern!

These were a great make. I made them as swim shorts for my daughter and they look fabulous and fit perfectly. They were easier than I thought they would be. The pattern instructions were clear and easy to follow. I’m making another pair for myself right now!

These shorts remind me of my high school and the fit, and so comfortable for summer and for working out.

I love how the binding really works so well with these shorts! These were such an easy sew and helped me practice binding in an easy, quick way. It's really a scrap buster too if you have only a half yard of knit. These pair well with a tank and my new Nantucket Bucket hat (Greenstyle pattern too!).

It’s not often that I buy a pattern and make it right away. They usually sit in my collection for a rainy day. But this pattern I bought AND made it within a few days! And I’m not going to lie...it wasn’t a quick and easy pattern (for me anyway). But the time-consuming process of adding the binding really makes the end result so worth it! The fit was great on my daughter and they look so cute! And I love that there are so many different options to make them. The contoured waistband is probably my favorite though, although I think I’ll try the elastic version for an even more retro look.

The Venice Beach Shorts are so quick and easy to sew up you will want to make tons of them. And why not? They are comfortable and cute!! My teen daughters love them and have asked for several more already! I love that there are different inseam options, my teens go for the 2 1/2” while I prefer the 3 1/2” for myself.

I love the VBS! I've made six pairs already in three different sizes with two different waistbands, three different lengths, and with and without pockets. I even blogged about them at RealMomsWhoSewAndSelfie.Wordpress.com, if you'd like to see pics of all of my pairs! Thanks for a stellar pattern!

This is my FAVORITE shorts pattern, hands down. I love the binding, the look, and the fit. I love how you can get either a retro look or an athletic look. There are so many different variations, there’s something for everyone.

This is such a great pattern! I love the fit of them. The contoured waistband, pockets, and length make this the perfect athletic/lounge short for me!

I ❤️❤️ These shorts! Quick and simple sew plus so many options in length and waistbands. Great scrap buster too! When testing the patter, once you made your first pair...you quickly began sewing many more!!

These are comfy as loungewear too.
I actually had a pair of shorts like this in the 70s.
