Embrace Sports Bra: Using Bra Foam Tutorial

Embrace Sports Bra: Using Bra Foam Tutorial

Posted by Danielle Allen on

Hey y'all! It's Danielle Allen here, and I'm going to show you how to add bra foam in your new Embrace Sports Bra.  I have several different weights of foam I use and love.   The one in this tutorial is the heavy weight bra spacer foam from HaloFabricAddicts, and I'm obsessed with it.  You can also find cut and sew foam at Phee Fabrics or Gigi's Bra Supply (and I'm sure many others, these are just the few that I know of that regularly have stock)

Ok let's do it.  Super easy.  In this tutorial, I'm making a bust dart version, so if you don't need the darts, skip to the end after step 2, because you're basically done as soon as you start!

Step one: Lay your bra foam out with your Front Piece 2 pattern piece on top, remember to cut on the fold!

Step 2:

Using a washaway marker (or not, its going on the inside of your bra and nobody will see it haha so use whatever your heart desires really!), remove your seam allowance. This will keep the foam out of the seams when you join your main pieces to your lining piece so they don't get bulky. Do not remove anything from your dart.

Step 3:

Cut out along your new lines, and cut the dart out completely if you're using that option.

Step 4:

Using a zig zag stitch, close your dart by butting the ends up to each other.

Your lining piece will now look like this (or completely flat if you didn't need the darts)

Step 5:

Now all that's left to do is attach it to the WRONG side of your lining piece, outside of the seam allowance.  I like to tack it down along the outside in a few places to keep it from shifting at all while I sew.

And you're done! Now you can treat your lining as one piece and finish up your amazing new sports bra.  I can't wait to see what you create! Please feel free to share with all of us in the Greenstyle Facebook Group!
