“TONIC TAPS FASHION DESIGNER LUELLA BARTLEY TO CREATE ~ LIMITED EDITION T-SHIRTS”
Bartley is a UK based fashion designer who we wrote about recently for her strategic partnerships with Environmental Justice and other caring designers.
Luella, has now created a new line of ethical threads for Tonic T-Shirts. Their creative organic t-shirts make for a great gift this holiday season:

“A for-profit company with a new business model, TONIC partners with secular non-profits working around the globe, who make huge differences in four key areas — the environment, education, poverty and social welfare. Each TONIC t-shirt collection is designed to aid in implementing philanthropic programs with measurable, impactful, global and relevant outcomes.”
Here are the four tees to benefit four causes (Shown above clockwise are the cute t-shirts and the charity) they’ve partnered up with:
1. The Robin Tee: “For students in Abricots, Haiti, shoes are one of the most expensive, yet most needed items. Sneakers are the preferred choice of assistance because many students walk miles through mountainous and rocky roads and trails to get to school every day.”
2. The Pagan Sun Tee: Coral reefs are one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth and one of the essential life-support systems of the planet, that supply one-tenth of the fish for island and coastal people. “Funds must be raised to ensure the conservation of threatened and endangered coral reefs and their surrounding marine ecosystems around the world.“

Eight pigs that were tatooed with the trademark Louis Vuitton logo are being banned from a modern art exhibit in Shanghai over animal rights concerns.
The holidays are creeping up fast, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Many are busy planning what they are going to cook, what they are going to wear…and everyone’s thinking about gifts they are going to give.
One thing you may not have considered is your serving dishes or your table settings. Do they match, do you have enough? If you’re like me the once complete matching set has been reduced to bits and pieces over the years as things get dropped, broken and lost. I’m lucky to have a complete set of dishes for 6…and matching serving bowls… forget it. Good thing I’m not planning any large, fancy get togethers this season, but that could all change with a phone call, email, or spur of the moment idea.

Unicorn is an award-winning women’s designer wear label with great character, founded by Ireland-based French designer Sophie Rieu. Collections are made from the finest locally-sourced organic and natural fabrics. Her garments are elegantly understated, and flatter the female form with particular emphasis on detailing and finish.
With a portfolio of brands that encompasses everything from animal friendly eco-accessories to organic skincare, Stella McCartney has lived and breathed a verdant life for years. Hell bent on debunking the myths and assumptions surrounding organic & natural, Stella has made sure her cool, modern & sexy aesthetic leaves no-one in doubt that not only are we entering a new era of consciousness, but it’s one that is firmly rooted in design that fuses killer aesthetic & performance with sound process. Only fitting then that she should be awarded a fashion biz first that recognizes her contributions, with an award for “Best Green Designer” by the ACE (Accessories Council Excellence). True to form, she’d only accept the award if it was ‘green’, so the ACE promptly upcycled and repurposed the Judith Leiber original that was created for the award ceremony. Now that’s what we call walking the talk… GO STELLA!
But this week, Vancouver turns the spotlight on sustainability with its first ever eco-focused fashion night, Friday, November 7th, 2008.
Vancouver Fashion Week, a hotbed of haute couture and leading west coast designers, is one of the premier purveyors of popular pageantry, unveiling some of the world’s most sought after styles and trends. This year, VFW is showing its support for the environment with a dedicated evening for designers to promote their leading edge sustainable artistry and eco-conscious craftmanship. From eco luxury, showcasing the art of organic handmade silk, to the unique beauty of recycled fabrics like cashmere and wool, an impressive range of techniques and designs will be featured.

Okay, first of all I have to point out that while my colleague, Rodney Pate is a phenomenal photographer and artist, this may be his one and only flawed photo . . . I’m not svelt, but I swear I’m not that fat!
But of course, it is really all about the bag . . . that part of the photo actually works extremely well.
I’m loving this bag that came from EcoBags.com (psssst, they’re having a sale!). It has become my de facto brief case that I stuff with all the various things I think I can’t live without during my long days at work.
This bag has a slightly sexy green message, which always makes life a little more interesting. But, what’s really interesting about this bag is that it is made from recycled cotton and it is not unreasonably priced @ $14.99.
Find this bag and others like it . . .
Just listening to Obama’s acceptance speech, made me realize that today is rewriting history books and one we will remember forever.
Here is a little souvenir from the great transition to true leadership and hope for our society! Obama is Our Amazing Leader of Hope this Century.

I recently watched a video on Ecostiletto featuring Rachel Sarnoff & Josie Maran dishing on this mascara - in fact, not just chatting about its accolades but actually giving it the onion test. That’s right… the onion test. Translation: taking an everyday onion and chopping it with your eyes wide open. Unless you’re wearing safety goggles or have your eyes shut, this will usually produce streaming tears in the most hardened among us. The conventional mascara was a washout. Josie Maran’s mascara… not a smidge of mascara anywhere except on her lashes!

OK, enough shouting, here are some places around the ecosphere to get psyched up about getting to the polls yourself (shown above top to bottom) ~
I LOVE this tee shirt! What fun it could inspire with light Organic Cupcakes, for a spontaneous voting party tomorrow!

Blake Mycoskie brought it all home last week. TOMS Shoes, his hugely successful line of canvas slip-ons and the new “wrap boots” now sell tons of national retailers like Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, American Rag and Greenloop. TOMS Shoes has a philanthropic business model, giving one pair of their canvas slip-ons to a child in need for every pair they sell. Up until now, founder Blake Mycoskie and team have done their “shoe drops” in exotic locales like Argentina, South Africa, and Ethiopia to personally fit kids with brand new pairs of TOMS. So far, they have distributed 85,000 free pairs of shoes worldwide.
Since in the US most kids have access to shoes, doing shoe drops abroad seemed to make the most sense. Blake recently realized though that some American children, like victims of natural disasters, were stuck with ill-fitting hand-me-downs or had to share shoes with siblings. So TOMS arranged a handful of their DIY shoe parties, dubbed Style Your Sole, at four different school districts in Mississippi still recovering from Katrina. Each child received their very own pair of white canvas TOMS to paint in their own unique way; needless to say, they were very excited!
Another brilliant idea from TOMS.

Maya Lin, best-known for her modern, memory gripping design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., has shifted her subject matter to our planet, focusing in recent years “on a reconsideration of landscape in a time of ecological tension and change“. Currently, Maya Lin’s work is presented by PG&E at the de Young ~ via Heart of Green’s Cool Green Events:
“Systematic Landscapes is a major exhibition of new sculptures, drawings, and installations by renowned artist Maya Lin…this new body of work engages the issue of our fragile connection to the environment in timely and poetic ways.”
Simultaneously, Systematic Landscapes previews Maya Lin’s public art installation Where the Land Meets the Sea, a tubular wire sculpture commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission for Golden Gate Park’s California Academy of Sciences.
